Fifteen (15) years ago, back in 1994 there were these promising kids who graduated from St. Mary’s Academy Pasay City Philippines. The last time they spent time together, talked to each other, shared smiles and tears was at the
Philippine International Convention Center it was their graduation day.
Fifteen years later, thanks to the Social Network Service (“SNS”) Facebook, they found each other and had a reunion yesterday, Saturday 5th of December 2009 at Bed Scene, SM Mall of Asia.
On my part, it all started with one photo, our Grade 5 Class picture. Heidi Drilon tagged me and I checked it out. This gave me the idea of searching for my classmates and schoolmates.
That night I took out our yearbook Maryan ’94 and searched for Class 1994 – yeah all of them! The next day, I created a group to make it easy connecting to everyone (I almost got banned from Facebook because I was connecting and sending messages individually, to a lot of people too fast!)
Then I found Rene Lansangan who immediately suggested that we organize a reunion. Through the Facebook group and because of that one memorable class photo posted by Lea Dela Mines, a mini-reunion was organized.
Why “mini”? It was an impromptu reunion! It was a please come if you can gathering, an initial or test if you will. Mini also because there were 456 graduates from 9 sections, and to date, we were able to find more or less 100 (my guesstimate) of our batch (those in Facebook and those who are not).
But even though it was an impromptu reunion, 18 people showed up! Half brought cameras and we ended up taking class pictures every chance we get. You can see all the photos here.
We are going to organize a bigger reunion soon, and hopefully with the help from the SMA-PC Alumni Association and sponsors as well. We hope that next time, we will see a bigger turn out percentage of our class.
We may be Elementary classmates only, but it is this level that really builds a new relationships. It is the Elementary level that truly gives value to re-connecting with your friends from your school days.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and to those who weren’t able to join us, watch out for the next one! Let’s revisit the past, get re-acquainted again, and who knows, business partnerships might form or we may find our long lost best friends like below:
