Google Base and Google Payments

I remembered about Google Base and Google Payments after I found Google Calendar. I went to http://base.google.com and http://payments.google.com and found that Google Base is now up (in beta) while Google Payments is still unavailable - more likely they are testing gPayments internally.
This will greatly rival eBay and PayPal, the dominant sites in their respective spaces (ie auction sites and payment gateways). Will this be accepted widely?
Follow up:
I will say yes. Major reason, PayPal is not available to countries where eCommerce is nearly strong like the Philippines. Last time I contacted PayPal, they replied to me saying that the reason they are not offering their services yet in our country is that they can’t strike a good deal with the local (Philippine) banks, further explained that the local banks are requesting for a high return than what PayPal can offer.
I can not blame PayPal for that, it is true that the Philippine banks charge high for such partnerships, I know it because of my relatives, friends and the companies I worked for and currently working for.
But that did not stopped other payment gateways like Ikobo among others. If like Ikobo they can offer their services in countries like the Philippines, why not PayPal and Google?
For Google, they are already in partnerships with local/regional companies and is already offering more and more of their services for the Philippine market - Google Base and Google Payments will be one of those in the near future. This will finally boom and rekindle eCommerce in the Philippines a market that the Philippine Government should have prioritized as this is one major way in solving poverty in the country.
Oh, btw, good luck to PayPal, it’s not yet late for them as shown by this petition (there used to be 7 of these PayPal service petitions for the Philippines), if Google Payments will enter the market first, it will be too late by then - Google products and services are very popular in the country (toppling Yahoo!’s dominance).
