Bespin is the newest prototype from Mozilla Labs and I can see a very bright future for this latest product, as well as for all Web Developers.
What is Bespin? Simply, it is your best and/or favorite web editor taken online and enhanced even more.
Okay, it seems to be a little too much of a claim for a prototype product but Bespin is that kind of a product.
Follow up:
Here are the alpha features:
- Syntax highlighting
- Import and export
- Command line - create your own commands as well
- Undo/Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste
- Gone with the Tree-file browsing, Welcome Pane-browsing
- Resizable columns and rows (where applicable, like the Dashboard) - something we do not see with web-based applications
Collaboration! Which features the following:
- real-time typing
- real-time highlighting
- list of people watching/opened the file
- marking of who’s actively editing the file (i.e. typing, highlighting, etc.)
- View in Browser
- fast response, as if you are using a desktop-based editor - you can have thousands of lines of codes
- Extensible
- Access Anywhere - most modern (take note) standards-compliant and HTML5 supporting browser can open Bespin (and you know which browser can not open Bespin by now)
* Note: Collaboration is not yet active.
What is even great is that the Bespin Team wants to hear from the developers themselves. New features, enhancements to be made, which feature to drop or be replaced, how do you plan on using it, how’s your experience as a team, and so on.
You can join the Bespin Google Group, read the documentation, or even download the source code (license: Mozilla Public License).
